1916 World Series Official Program (Boston). Just two days after a fan in Boston neatly scored the first game of the Fall Classic in this exceptionally scarce program, a young pitcher named Ruth would sample his first taste of immortality with thirteen scoreless innings of pitching in Game Two. The inaugural game saw the Sox jump out to an early lead in a Series they would eventually win in five, with the home town squad almost blowing a six to one lead in the ninth after giving up four to the "never say die" Brooklyn Robins. The action is registered in pencil on two pages adorned with images of the latest Dodge Brothers Motor Cars. Team photos, including a baby-faced Ruth, are inside as well. This Souvenir Score Book from that dramatic day at Braves Field shows expected wear from its nine decades of life, with the front and rear covers loose from the stapled binding and some minor tears and foxing to the interior pages, but one must forgive such imperfections given the tremendous rarity of the piece. Only a tiny handful could possibly exist today.
