1916-S<$5> MS63 PCGS. This boldly struck better date Indian Five has consistent radiant golden-brown color, and the fields and devices are undisturbed by relevant contact. The obverse is especially attractive. Although 240,000 pieces were struck, much of the mintage was presumably eventually melted, since survivors are relatively scarce, and only a handful of pieces have been certified in MS65 or higher grades. The San Francisco Mint had struck Half Eagles annually (with a few exceptions) since its doors opened in 1854, however, the 1916-S proved to be the final issue of the denomination from the mint.
