1916-S<10C> MS66 Full Bands PCGS. According to David W. Lange's (The Complete Guide to Mercury Dimes, 1993), the 1916-S was considered less of a condition rarity than its P-mint counterpart until the mid-1940s. This may seem ironic to today's collectors, since the 1916-S is well known for poorly defined central features. In addition to fully split crossbands, the Larry Shapiro specimen is also noteworthy for its smooth, nearly abrasion-free surfaces. The rich endowment of mint frost shines forth with blinding intensity in the absence of toning. It is not a frequent occurrence for fully struck Premium Gem examples of this issue to be offered at public auction.
From The Larry Shapiro Collection of Mercury Dimes.
