1916 Liberty Standing 25C PCGS MS63
1916 Liberty Standing Quarter Dollar. PCGS graded MS-63 PQ. Housed in a First Generation Holder. Light golden toning. A satiny example with strong fundamental luster. Nicely struck, including most of the detail in Liberty's head and all shield rivets - close enough to full head that special attention should be given by those bidding. Indeed, the luster of the present coin easily rivals that of a Mint State 64 specimen.

Hermon A. MacNeil's beautiful Standing Liberty Quarter design made its entrance in 1916 and continued in production until 1930. Mintage that year was limited to the Philadelphia Mint. The facility did not deliver its first Standing Liberty Quarters until December 16, however due to the usual minor problems in the design department preparing the hubs and working dies. Between that date and the end of the December, only 52,000 pieces of the new design were struck. With its limited mintage, especially for a 20th century silver coin, the popularity of this issue was set for years to come. One expert suggest that the 1916 is the most keenly sought issue in the entire Standing Liberty Quarter series, even more so than the 1918/7-S overdate.

A definite highlight of this sale, this choice specimen is one of the more significant Quarters of any design that serious collectors will acquire (PCGS # 5704) .
Estimated Value $15,000 - 16,000.
