1916-D Mercury 10C
1916-D Mercury Dime. PCGS graded MS-63 Full Bands. Well struck and lightly toned. A popular key date. The federal government's production of only 264,000 Dimes at the Denver Mint in 1916 appears to have created a feeding frenzy among contemporary coin collectors when they discovered how scarce these coins truly were. Since quality control was still good for the sake of the new design, most 1916-P,D, and S Mercury dimes emerged from the presses with defined central and peripheral devices. Later issues would deteriorate as quality control lapsed. The present example and exemplar of Choice MS63 quality. Both sides are fully struck in all areas with crisp, well rounded crossbands. The surfaces are nicely frosted beneath delicate shades leaving much of the silvery iridescence intact and gleaming (PCGS # 4907) .
Estimated Value $11,000 - 12,000.

Provenance: The Dr. Charles Richman Collection.
