1916-D Mercury 10C PCGS MS65FB
1916-D Mercury Dime. PCGS graded MS63 FB. Brilliant with satiny luster. The 1916-D Mercury dime is one of the premier rarities of 20th century numismatics, rubbing elbows with such notables as the 1916 standing Liberty quarter, the 1901-S Barber quarter, and the like. Only 264,000 were made, and the lack of collectors in the mid-portion of the continent made the survival of a large Mint State population impossible. This handsome specimen with its choice surfaces and original color boasts nice Full Bands definition, and it is only superseded in rarity by a few dates, most notably the 1919-S and the 1945. Regardless of the extant population of 1916-D dimes, the number of active seekers among collectors and specialized buyers has always far put a lot of stress upon the floating supply. This choice example is an excellent reward for the Mercury dime who has done the homework and knows the full value of such a piece.

HANDSOME FULL BANDS 1916-D MERCURY DIME.

This, of course, is not a new type for a coin; it is only new for the United States. The winged head was used almost exclusively on one side of the family or consular coins of the Roman Republic before the Christian era (PCGS # 4907)
