1916-D<25C> MS66 PCGS. The diversion of Denver Mint resources to strike the large number of 1916 quarters of the Barber design, 6,650,800 pieces to be precise, is a major reason for the paucity of 1916-D Mercury dimes. This is an extremely choice, brilliant, lustrous, and untoned example of this last-year-of-issue Barber quarter. Stars 1 through 4 are softly struck, as is the eagle's wingtip on the opposite side, and wispy die crack joins the right side of the date with star 13. The fields and devices are all exceptionally clean. The overall appearance is of a lovely Premium Gem, exactly as it escaped from the dies 90 years ago. Population: 70 in 66, 5 finer (12/05).
