1916-D 10C MS65 Full Bands PCGS. Aside from the 1909-S VDB Cent, the 1916-D is probably the most widely recognized rarity in 20th century numismatics. Only 264,000 pieces were struck before Mint Director F.J.H. Engelken halted production on November 24 to refocus the Mint's efforts on the manufacture of Quarters. Survivors are eagerly sought out in all grades, and there are never enough examples extant to satisfy collector demand. Gems are very scarce, as one would expect with only 26 pieces so graded by PCGS and 19 finer (1/03). The satiny surfaces on this piece are bright and lightly toned with no obvious abrasions on either side. From the Jay Eisenberg Collection Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
