1916-D<10C> MS64 Full Bands PCGS. Satiny silver-gray luster coats the surfaces of this key date Mercury dime. Only 264,000 of these were released in November 1916 before the Denver Mint halted dime production to focus on quarter dollars. The crucial reverse center bands are fully split and rounded, and the coin abounds in eye appeal. Examination with a glass reveals a couple of nicks above Liberty's eye, while the reverse is free of all but the most insignificant ticks. Numismatist David W. Lange, writing in the April 8, 2005, monthly supplement of the Coin Dealer Newsletter, remarked, "As the undisputed key to this popular series, the 1916-D dime never seems to decline in value in any grade. Indeed, strong advances have been recorded have been recorded for this issue since 1993, with the value of MS64FB and MS65FB coins nearly tripling in that time." It seems more than likely that this key-date coin will continue to enjoy its immense popularity. Population: 109 in MS64 Full Bands, 51 finer (11/05).
