1916-D<10C> MS64 Full Bands PCGS. A satiny white coin that retains most of the luster imparted by the dies. The strike is bold and complete, with full definition on the central bands and on the finer points of Liberty's head. Excellent quality as expected for a Choice grade, although we note a faint luster disturbance down Liberty's check, and a couple of pinpoint pricks on the fasces. An impressive example of this coveted date and a coin which will always command attention.
Why the Denver Mint bothered to produce these at all in 1916 is raised by the numismatist. After all, just 264,000 were coined and most entered circulation with little fanfare. The various mints were also busy producing the new Walking Liberty half dollar and the Philadelphia Mint even slipped in the Standing Liberty quarter too. An exciting coin for the specialist, and downright scarce this well preserved and rare finer. Population: 107 in 64, 53 finer (8/05).
