1916 5C MS67 PCGS. 1916 saw the introduction of a new obverse hub for the Buffalo nickel. This was the Mint's attempt to remedy design deficiencies, for example the ubiquitous weakness in LIBERTY, as found on previous dates in this series. Despite improvements to the hub and a relatively high mintage of 1916 nickels, finding a well struck example can be a challenge. In his book The Complete Guide to Buffalo Nickels, David Lange states: "A number of pieces will show distinctive flatness in the central portion of the Indian's portrait. This affects the hair braid in particular."
A review of the PCGS Population Report indicates that only 10 examples have been certified at the MS67 level (3/07). More noteworthy is the fact that the population has remained nearly unchanged since 2003, with only one MS67 example being certified by PCGS since that time.
This is a bright, frosted coin that shows complete striking details on each side. Exceptionally clean, as one would expect from an MS67, this is a wonderful example of this early Buffalo nickel.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
