1916 (5 May) Irish soldier's letter relating to the 1916 Rising
manuscript, 3 pp
15 by 11cm., 6 by 4.5in.

An extremely scarce letter written home to County Meath, by a soldier serving on the Western Front with the 79th Field Company Royal Engineers. Interesting content relating to the Rebellion with questions asking "if they have shot the ringleaders", "have Father or Jeremy had anything to do in connection with it", threatening to desert from the army "if I don't hear something from home to show that even handed justice is being meted out to everyone" and mentioning political and military figures.
