1916 25C MS66 Full Head NGC. The general overhaul of minor silver coinage designs in 1916 took up much of the Mint's time and energy, and the quarter dollar was the last denomination to receive the attention of Mint personnel. Between the numerous sundry steps involved in preparing dies and the occasional interpersonal conflict, time was so short that only Philadelphia managed to produce quarters with the Standing Liberty design, and only 52,000 such pieces. The result was an instant 20th century rarity and one of the most popular issues for the design.
This Full Head example has pleasing silver-gray color on the obverse and slight softness on several devices, including the stars that flank Liberty and the shield. Still, Liberty's head exhibits qualifying detail, and the overall eye appeal is strong. The reverse displays lovely blue-green patina overall with bolder lime toning at the lower margin. A delightful and carefully preserved example with only a few minuscule marks present in the fields around the eagle. NGC has graded a mere three finer Full Head pieces (6/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information\)
