1916<25C> MS66 Full Head NGC. A dash of faint gold color visits this thoroughly lustrous premium Gem. Thorough evaluation beneath a loupe fails to reveal any striking incompleteness, and only the most trivial contact is located. For the consummate connoisseur who has been waiting for the right example of this famous rarity to emerge. The 1916 Standing Liberty Quarter is not the lowest mintage issue of its denomination from the twentieth century; that honor belongs to the 1913-S. But while the mintage for the 1916 is 52,000 pieces, versus 40,000 pieces for the 1913-S, the 1916 has several significant advantages over the 1913-S, in terms of its value. The 1916 is a single year subtype, since subtle modifications were made to the design prior to the introduction of the 1917 Type One. The Standing Liberty Quarter series is more widely collected than the Barber series, especially in Mint State grades. The design is arguably an improvement over Charles Barber's functional but traditional interpretation of Liberty, and is a continuation of outside professional artist involvement in revamping American coinage.
