1915-S 50C Panama-Pacific MS67 PCGS. Richard Jewell. T
1915-S<50C> Panama-Pacific MS67 PCGS. Ex: Richard Jewell. The Panama-Pacific Exposition was designed to attract attention, draw visitors to San Francisco, and make money for the city, in addition to showing that it had fully rebounded from the ashes of the 1906 earthquake. The exposition was a great success, and numismatically it was equally successful. Curiously, the ANA was "a dismal failure" according to Q. David Bowers, even though it was held that year in San Francisco also. The Pan-Pac half dollar has long been one of the keys to the commemorative series. It is available for a price in lower grades, but Superb coins such as this one are rare indeed. The mint luster on this piece is perhaps its most singular and exceptional aspect. Softly frosted, the luster swirls around the surfaces and is virtually unaffected by abrasions. The obverse is mostly brilliant with just the slightest hint of color on that side, while the reverse displays rich olive toning with rose accents around the periphery. Outstanding quality.
