1915 50C PR66 NGC. Last of the "Big Three" (1913, 1914, and 1915 P-mints), all with impressively low mintages and scarce in high grades. Proofs, however, bring little premium because of the scarcity of high grade business strikes, but this is an area that collectors should look into more closely. A mere 450 proofs were struck in this year, but a relatively high number were saved in better grades. Thus, this coin would make a fine substitute for the significantly more expensive business strike 1915 in MS66. The fields are deeply mirrored and the centers are brilliant and surrounded by thin bands of lovely iridescent toning at the margins. Census: 21 in 66, 17 finer (11/07).

Coin Engraver: Charles E.
