1915<$2 1/2> MS65 PCGS. The 1915 quarter eagle, with a mintage of 606,000 pieces, is considered by Mike Fuljenz and Doug Winter, in their book A Collector's Guide to Indian Head Quarter Eagles, to be "...more available in higher grades than the 1909-1914 Philadelphia issues, but it is considerably more difficult to obtain than any of the issues struck in the 1920's." PCGS and NGC have certified several thousand examples in MS60 through MS64 grades; fewer than 100 coins have been graded full Gem and finer.
The MS65 example in this lot displays copper-peach hues, as well as the dull, slightly grainy texture that is seen on most of the 1909-1914 Philadelphia issues. The design features are sharply impressed, with no areas revealing significant weakness. A few minor contact marks and scuffs occur in the raised, exposed fields, but generally the surfaces are fairly well preserved. Population: 75 in 65, 3 finer (4/06).
