1914 Telegram Sent to a Passenger on the RMS Lusitania. One page, 8.5” x 5.5”, “The Marconi International Marine Communication Co., Ltd.”, stamped “Lusitania” and dated July 30, 1914. This telegram was sent to a passenger named “Strassburger” (a newspaper tycoon and thoroughbred racehorse owner) onboard the RMS Lusitania on what was to be her last peacetime voyage. The sender wants to know where the passenger intends to disembark - “New London or Newport you decide after landing”. Just days after this telegram was sent the bloodletting of the First World War commenced and in less than a year’s time the Lusitania will have been sunk by the German submarine U-20 with a loss of nearly 1200 passengers including many prominent Americans. Her sinking marked a turning point in American attitudes and was in great measure responsible for the United States to abandon isolationist policies and enter the war on the side of the Allies. Fold creases, else near fine.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
