A smooth-surfaced coin and a gem by any benchmark. What's more, this has an engaging display of pale golden brown toning that layers the highly lustrous silver gray surfaces in typical "old nickel" fashion; 1914-S being a scarce branch mint date in gem condition. The strike is strong for the date, with just a touch of weakness along the reverse rim, which affects the bison's tail and hind leg. The shoulder area as well as the head, horn, and tip of the tail, however, are sharply impressed by the die.
