1914-S<$5> MS63 PCGS. The Garrett-Guth gold Encyclopedia comments cogently of this issue: "Even in MS-64 grades, this date is rarer than many other issues in MS-65 ... . Thus, the 1914-S has earned its place as the most difficult and rarest issue of the series to find in MS-64 or higher grades. This date should be considered the key date to the series." While many examples suffer from impaired luster, this charming example has better-than-average luster that complements a bold strike. The few well-hidden light abrasions are consistent with the grade but entirely undistracting. A high-end piece for the MS63 rating, due to the high net eye appeal. Both NGC and PCGS have graded only 12 pieces finer (9/06).
