1914-S $10 MS64 PCGS. The mintage of the 1914-S ten In
1914-S $10 MS64 PCGS. The mintage of the 1914-S ten Indian was not exceptionally low at 208,000 pieces. With such a mintage, one would expect numerous high grade examples to be available to the specialist. However, probably no more than 1,000 examples are known today in all grades, and only a few have survived above AU condition.
It is in MS64 and better condition that the 1914-S shows itself as one of the leading condition rarities in the series. One cannot overemphasize the elusiveness of this issue in Mint State, and specifically in the grade of the specimen offered here. According to the authors of The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, "Probably no more than 100 pieces are extant today in MS64 and better grades. Perhaps it is most clearly illustrated by the ANR cataloger who in June 2006 who noted, 'Going back to the Eliasberg and Norweb Collections, it is significant to note that the date was represented in both cabinets by pieces graded AU-50!' " In light of the fact that those two collections were known for their superior quality, it is clear that a piece such as the instant MS64 specimen is a rare find indeed. PCGS has graded only 78 specimens MS64 and a paltry 11 finer, with the finest being a lone MS66.
The surfaces of this coin show rich orange-gold mint frost and the striking definition is strong throughout. Additionally, there are no obvious or detracting marks on either side.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
