1914 Robert Fitzsimmons Handwritten Letter. Wit
1914 Robert Fitzsimmons Handwritten Letter. With a powerful torso forged at the fires of his blacksmith shop, Fitzsimmons rode his tremendous punching power to World Championship titles in the Middleweight, Light-Heavyweight and Heavyweight divisions. While Fitzsimmons' death in 1917 has assured the thinnest of supplies for boxing autograph collectors today, the offered piece multiplies that scarcity by ten-fold. The first Fitzsimmons handwritten letter to reach the auction block in recent memory, this remarkable missive would be a treasure even without the fantastic content it provides. "Ruby Robert," who had been denied a boxing license at the advanced age of fifty-one, rails against the authorities behind the decision, writing in part, "...I am training hard now to fight Dan Daley on the 22 of this month at Williams Port Pa and I fight the Boxing Commission next week. I am going to put the Commission out of commission..." The letter is penned in 9+/10 black ink on front and back of Fitzsimmons' wonderful personal letterhead, which remains in terrific condition with only a half-inch separation at one of the original mailing folds. Closing "Robert Fitzsimmons" autograph is superb. Original mailing envelope is likewise penned in the Boxing Hall of Famer's hand. An absolutely superb piece of boxiana for the elite collector. Please see also the Robert Fitzsimmons book signed to the letter's addressee presented within this auction. LOA from PSA/DNA.
