1914-D: This is a two-sided carving by a less proficient unknown artist, yet interesting in its own way. The obverse is holed (as is the reverse), and is rather crudely done, with quite a few scratches representing the hair, etc. Unaltered profile, with a small ear, low on the head. An interesting technique was used for the ear, making it appear raised, and it has a raised line leading downward to the jaw. This cataloger does not recall seeing this feature before on a hobo nickel. The reverse is much more attractive, with what appears to be a goat leaping to butt someone or something. A small W is carved to the left of FIVE and what appears to be a 3 or a 5 to the right of CENTS. Because of the dual sided carving and the reverse subject, despite the hole, this would be an Average to Above Average specimen on what was probably a Fine to Very Fine host coin.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
