One of the undisputed keys to this long-lived series, the '14-D was produced in limited numbers (1.1 million coins). What's more, far fewer examples of this issue were saved than, say, the first-year (and lower mintage) 1909-S VDB. This is an overall bold example with good striking quality and no bothersome abrasions. Original luster in cherry-red shades can be seen on both sides, but the moderate, dappled toning is a bit more extensive on the reverse. A coin that is sure to elicit strong bids from the numerous numismatists who specialize in this timeless series. Population: 30 in 65, only three are finer in Red and Brown (11/02).
