1914-D $10 MS67 PCGS. Ex: Duckor Collection. The 1
1914-D<$10> MS67 PCGS. Ex: Duckor Collection. The 1914-D ten dollar has a substantial mintage of 343,500 pieces. It is generally considered a non-descript issue in the series, and is commonly referred to as the second most common Denver ten Indian, second only to the 1910-D. This perception of commonness is generally true. Most collectors will never think of the 1914-D as an important condition rarity, as they will locate a more available issue in high grade. Currently, more than 2,000 pieces have been certified in all grades by the two major services, and coins are generally available through MS64, however, at the elite Superb Gem level, only nine coins have been seen by both PCGS and NGC. In order to fully appreciate the condition rarity of the 1914-D, one needs to look outside the Denver Mint issues in the ten dollar Indian series. In the catalog of the Thaine Price Collection, David Akers summed up the nature of this issue: "in Gem condition, the 1914-D is actually very rare, much more so than any of the Philadelphia Mint issues from 1908-1915 except the 1909, and roughly comparable in rarity to much more highly rated issues as the 1908-S and 1916-S."
The surfaces of this piece have a trace of very fine granularity, but it is not as noticeable as it is on the other Denver Mint issues or even most Philadelphia Mint issues in the series. That may be the general rule for most high grade 1914-D tens. The color on this coin is a light greenish-gold with variegated accents of deep orange-red over each side. There are no singularly mentionable post-striking blemishes on either side, but as seen on other high grade '14-Ds, this specimen exhibits a depression over and in front of the 19 in the date, a curious "as struck" feature. Population: 3 in 67, none are finer (3/06).
Indian Eagle Selections from the Dr. Steven L. Duckor Collection.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid. This lot is being auctioned in conjunction with a live floor auction by Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers. All final auction and invoice information will be supplied by Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers, and all other information should be considered preliminary.
