1914 5C PR68 PCGS. The 1914 is one of the more frequently encountered dates of the 1913-1916 proof Buffalo Nickel series. Writing in 2000, David W. Lange even states that the issue has "a fairly high survival rate in top grades." With only eight specimens certified PR68 by NGC and PCGS combined (10/02), the author certainly could not have been including this grade level in that statement. A beautiful coin in all regards, the silky-smooth surfaces are overlaid in competing swirls of champagne-rose and powder-blue iridescence. There is not a single bothersome hairline, contact mark, or carbon fleck, and the strike is razor sharp throughout.
