<B>1914<$20> MS65 NGC.</B></I> Bright and frosty, with very clean surfaces throughout. This is a very difficult date to obtain in Gem grades, and virtually impossible to locate finer. The mintage was small at 95,200 pieces, and very few survived in Choice or Gem grades. Close examination with a loupe will discover a couple of ticks which are primarily hidden on the devices, but the luster and color are well preserved. For identification purposes, there is a tiny nick on Liberty's drapery fold between her legs, midway between her offset knees.<BR> As events in Europe unfolded, the world seemed ready to erupt in war, and country after country chose sides and joined in the conflict. Commerce slowed and demand for coinage weakened. The available gold was held in banks as the worlds economies shifted from butter to guns.
