1913-S 5C Type Two MS66 PCGS. This is the rarest of the six 1913-dated issues in the Buffalo Nickel series. Not only is the original mintage of 1.2 million pieces limited for a 20th century Nickel, but the '13-S Type Two often displays excessive softness of strike that limits the grade as well as the eye appeal. Far finer that virtually all other examples that the cataloger has handled, the present Gem displays overall bold definition with relatively little striking softness around the peripheries. The latter feature is mostly confined to the obverse, but both sides are pleasingly distraction-free with no bothersome abrasions or carbon flecks. Mostly silver-gray in sheen, there are a few isolated swirls of golden-orange patina at the left and right reverse borders. Population: 22 in 66, there is only one finer (10/02).From The BTB Collection of Buffalo Nickels. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
