1913-S<$10> MS63 PCGS. Only 66,000 pieces were struck of the 1913-S, and that mintage is representative of the scarcity of this S-mint ten. It is, in fact, one of the foremost condition rarities in the series with survivors seldom located above the VF-XF level. In MS63, this piece represents a rare opportunity for the collector. PCGS has only certified 19 pieces in this grade with 15 finer, while NGC has graded four in MS63 with 15 finer (5/05). While the advanced collector might wish to hold out for one of the few MS64 coins that have been certified, it would be wise to factor price into such a decision, as an MS64 would cost around three times as much as this pleasing MS63. The fields show the fine-grain finish one expects from gold coins struck in the teens with an overlay of satiny mint luster. Each side shows an interplay of orange-gold and lilac patina that adds even more to the overall attractiveness of this coin. A few light abrasions are scattered over each side, but none are large or individually bothersome.
