1913-P (Type Two): This unknown artist is nicknamed "Needle Ear" because of the shape of the subject's ear on all his carvings, very pointed at the bottom with a loop at the top. An Above Average, original carving on a Extra Fine coin, the technique is somewhat reminiscent of the works of "Peanut Ear," but is by a different artist. All features of the hat are nicely presented, and the hair/beard/moustache was probably done with what is known as a "beading tool," a small punch-like implement. Note how the artist has curved the end of the beard dramatically upward on the subject. As on most original hobo nickels, the profile (nose) has been altered, as has the nostril and the mouth.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
