<B>1913 25C PR68 Cameo NGC.</B></I> While 613 proof strikes of the 1913 quarter do not seem to be an excessive number, David Lawrence, in the 2nd Edition of his <I>Complete Guide to Barber Quarters,</B></I> writes that: "There are three times as many proofs as business strikes (extant) and they are only worth a slight premium over other proof issues." The fact that NGC and PCGS have seen nearly 400 1913 proof quarters lends credence to Lawrence's contention, until one sees that less than 30 examples have been assigned the Cameo designation. Moreover, the services have certified just seven PR68 Cameos, and one coin finer!<BR> The PR68 Cameo offered in this lot displays just the slightest hint of incipient yellow-gold color at the margins. Frosted design elements reveal a sharp strike, and offer a pronounced contrast with deeply mirrored fields. As one would expect, close inspection shows no marks, not even pedigree identifiers.
