1913 $20 MS65 NGC. One would be hard pressed to find a 1913 Double Eagle whose eye appeal could either match or surpass that of this conditionally rare survivor. The overall sharp definition is noteworthy for an issue that typically comes softly detailed. The luster quality is equally as impressive with billowy mint frost swirling around both sides. With no mentionable abrasions and eye appeal to spare, this coin is every bit the Gem. The 1913 was produced to the extent of just 168,838 pieces. Mint State representatives, while scarce, are available with patience at the heavily bagmarked BU level. This date is elusive in MS63, and Gems are more challenging to locate than those of such well known rarities in this series as the 1927-S, 1930-S, 1931, 1931-D, and 1932 (the latter per Akers, 1988). This is the first 1913 Double Eagle certified MS65 that we have offered in at least ten years. Population: 8 in 65, with just one finer (10/02).From the George Coyman Collection.
