1913 $20 MS63 ICG. The 1913 Philadelphia double eagle, 1913
1913<$20> MS63 ICG. The 1913 Philadelphia double eagle, with a business strike mintage of nearly 169,000 pieces, is one of the scarcer issues from that facility. Moreover, David Akers (1988) notes that the 1913 is generally not well struck, and that the luster is below average for the series. The present example is above average with respect to these attributes. Apricot-gold surfaces radiate strong luster and well struck devices, as manifested in the panes of the Capitol building and on Liberty's fingers holding the olive branch. Some weakness is noted in the left (right facing) knee and breast, and a small abrasion on the upper right obverse rim is mentioned for accuracy.
