Correspondence respecting the treatment of British colonial subjects and native Indians employed in the collection of rubber in the Putumayo District. London. 1912 published for presentation to both Houses of Parliament. In July 1910 Casement was instructed to travel to Peru and investigate the activities of the Peruvian Amazon Company in the Putumayo Region. Casement spent from August to November 1910 in the region and the above correspondence submitted on his return to London in January 1911 was unprecedented in its horrific descriptions of murder, torture and rape by employees of the Peruvian Amazon Company against the natives who had been enslaved and forced to collect and transport rubber along the banks of the Putumayo River.
