1912-S 5C MS65 PCGS. A key final-year issue in the 188
1912-S<5C> MS65 PCGS. A key final-year issue in the 1883-1912 Liberty series (not counting the elusive 1913 Liberty nickel, with five examples known), the 1912-S is also the only Liberty nickel issue from the San Francisco Mint. The 1912-S has a limited original mintage of 238,000 pieces, and it is little wonder that it is a key date in all grades. This is an uncommonly high grade representative, whose originally preserved surfaces are veiled in warm olive-gold toning, and slight hints of mottled russet coloration on each side. An uncommonly well defined Gem, both sides display sharp definition over the focal features, and there is almost no evidence of coin-to-coin contact. Rare any finer; this is an important coin for either the Liberty nickel specialist or the advanced type collector.
