1912-S 5C MS64 PCGS. Light heather and lilac toning gr
1912-S<5C> MS64 PCGS. Light heather and lilac toning graces each side of this stunning and delightful near-Gem coin, a pleasing example of this first nickel coinage from the San Francisco Mint, from the last year of the type. Although it seems common in U.S. numismatics that oftentimes a new design is introduced at branch mints that had not previously coined that denomination, what is less common is for new branch mints to coin the last years of a series. An interesting challenge might be to collect such pieces in high grade, for example the 1912-D and -S Liberty nickels, the 1908-S and 1909-S Indian cents, the 1891 O-mint dime and quarter issues, the 1921-D Morgan dollar, and the D-mint 1906 and 1907 eagles and double eagles. Are there others?
