1912-S 50C MS67 NGC. This coin and the Eliasberg piece 1912-S 50C MS67 NGC. This coin and the Eliasberg piece were most likely struck from the same set of dies as both show bright reflectivity in the fields, and most notably raised die finish lines are seen through the bases of D(OLL)AR. These lines are less prominent on this particular coin, but then the fields are not as obviously reflective as the Eliasberg piece either, indicating a later striking from the same die pairing. Evidence of the die polishing that was done to this coin in the mint is especially noticeable on the mintmark, which is peculiarly formed as it was partially effaced at the top and bottom. From a technical and aesthetic viewpoint, this piece is superior to the Eliasberg coin as that piece "only" graded MS66 at PCGS. The brilliant surfaces of this coin give the viewer an unrestricted view of the flashy, semi-prooflike fields and equally bright (and satiny) devices. Fully struck on the obverse, there is only the slightest softness evident on the reverse in the usual places: the eagle's right (facing) claw and the eagle's right (facing) wing close to the shield. This piece presents the astute buyer with the opportunity to acquire the finest known 1912-S half, a coin that will be of enduring interest to both the collector of finest known type as well as date and mintmark collectors like John Hugon who demand only the finest from this very challenging series.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid. This lot is being auctioned in conjunction with a live floor auction by Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers. All final auction and invoice information will be supplied by Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers, and all other information should be considered preliminary. Lot:4263
