<B>1912-S $5 MS63 PCGS.</B></I> Writing in the newly-published <I>Encyclopedia of U.S. Gold Coins, 1795 to 1933,</B></I> Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth have: "One of the classic rarities and most difficult issues to obtain in Mint State, the 1912-S issue has earned its reputation, which is quite a feat considering the number of rarities among the Indian Head half eagle series."<BR> This example displays better than usual striking detail, even though the mintmark is typically mushy. The satin luster and khaki-gold toning are quite attractive.
