1912-S $5 MS63 PCGS. According to the Garrett-Guth Gol
1912-S $5 MS63 PCGS. According to the Garrett-Guth Gold Encyclopedia, this issue has earned a well-deserved reputation as among the most elusive issues in Mint State, in a series replete with difficult coins. Calling the 1912-S "one of the classic rarities," the authors note that "The series is nearly always found with inferior strikes and luster, and this is one of the lowest-quality issues seen, likely accounting for the few gems graded." While the mintmark on this example is ill-formed, most of the surface shows a decent strike and beautiful coloration in shades of khaki-gold. A couple of small ticks on the Indian's cheek and a scrape below the chin prevent a finer grade, and muted luster is present on the mattelike surfaces. Population: 16 in 63, 21 finer (2/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
