1912-S $5 MS62 PCGS. Gold specialist David Akers (1988) writes: "The 1912-S is one of the most poorly made, if not the absolute most poorly made, gold issues of the 20th century. The Mint had serious die problems for this issue and nearly all specimens have a nearly invisible, amorphous mintmark and below average luster." The mintmark on the present piece is low relief, as usual for the issue, but the serifs are apparent. Unlike several other dates of the series, the presence of any mintmark identifies the piece as a 1912-S, since the Denver Mint passed on half eagle production in 1912. Satin luster glimmers across the suitably struck and moderately abraded surfaces. Population: 50 in 62, 36 finer (10/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
