1912-S 1C MS66 Red and Brown PCGS. The '12-S is on
1912-S 1C MS66 Red and Brown PCGS. The '12-S is one of the more elusive early Lincoln Cent issues in better Mint State grades, regardless of the color designation. Moreover, it is virtually unobtainable in a higher grade than that offered here, as indicated by the following PCGS population figures (likewise, as of 1/05, NGC has certified only 4 pieces, with none graded finer). Furthermore, of the 62 '12-S Mint State Red and Brown appearances that we have tracked at major auction houses since 1993, only one attained the MS66 level, with none higher. The present example has golden-orange patina, with a few streaks of tan and some splashes of violet and crimson, over bright, lustrous surfaces. The strike is sharp, with nice definition on Lincoln's hair, beard, and ear, and on the wheat stalks. A tiny, unobtrusive abrasion on Lincoln's ear, and another on the cheek bone, are mentioned solely for accuracy. Population: 1 in 66, 0 finer (1/05). Lot:5404
