1912-S<1C> MS65 Red PCGS. When offered at all, the '12-S is apt to be either well worn (coins that grade below Fine are the norm), corroded, or both. Occasionally, however, an AU or Mint State survivor turns up, but, once again, such pieces are often impaired. Writing in 1996, David W. Lange states that "fully struck and fully red [G]ems are nearly unknown." Of obvious importance to advanced Lincoln Cent date collectors, the present representative displays full pink-red luster with some splashes of orange-red color on the reverse. There are no distracting blemishes to report, and the needle sharp strike is also worthy of praise. A significant find for the specialist, and a coin that should see particularly spirited bidding from Registry Set collectors. Population: 35 in 65, none finer (6/05).
From The William Bickel Collection, Part One.
