1912-S $10 MS64 PCGS
1912-S $10 MS64 PCGS. The 1912-S is a conditionally scarce issue in the ten dollar Indian series. This is somewhat surprising since 300,000 pieces were struck, but obviously few were set aside in Uncirculated grades. It is also suggestive that the majority of the mintage was melted in the mid-1930s. Years ago David Akers wrote: "high grade and attractive" and "1912-S eagle" are almost mutually exclusive terms. While that is true of most pieces seen, it is certainly not the case with this coin. Much of the eye appeal of this coin comes from its rich, variegated rose-gold and lilac patina. This pronounced coloration is enhanced by vibrant, frosted mint luster. Better struck than most '12-S tens also, the surfaces show only small, inoffensive marks that define the less-than-Gem grade. Population: 39 in 64, 8 finer (2/08).

Coin Engraver: Augustus Saint-Gaudens

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
