Key 1912 Roosevelt & Johnson 1 1/4" Jugate Button. Teddy Roosevelt picked progressive California Senator Hiram Johnson as his running mate on his famed "Bull Moose" ticket. While a number of different varieties of jugates were produced, all are rare, and prices start at around $2,500, in good condition, and escalate to over $10,000. The present example is not one of the rarer designs, but it is so attractive that it has always been one of the most popular with collectors. The ubiquitous Bull Moose appears above the portraits, under a "Progressive" banner. This style is notorious for coming with light sepia, sometimes distressingly so. This one is very choice, with color as rich and deep as we have ever seen on one of this type. Unusual Kansas City button paper on reverse. Aside from being a tad off-center, as choice a copy as we have ever seen.
