1912-D 5C MS66 PCGS. Before 1908, US branch mint issue
1912-D<5C> MS66 PCGS. Before 1908, U.S. branch mint issues were limited to silver and gold coins. 1908 saw the first issues of branch mint cents, and in 1912, both the Denver and San Francisco mints began production of nickels. The 1912-D, although not the key date that its San Francisco counterpart is, is nonetheless legitimately tough in high grades. This Premium Gem piece, unexcelled at PCGS, boasts rose-gray toning with hints of blue around the peripheries. Surfaces are smooth and lustrous, and although the strike is by no means full, it is ample for the issue. A piece that is undoubtedly destined for an outstanding Registry set. Population: 27 in 66, 0 finer (7/06).
