<B>1912 Boston Red Sox World Series Pinback & Sock.</B></I> "As I look back upon the 1912 series, when we lost to the Boston Red Sox, I see it was the same. Pitchers, outfielders, the whole team collapsed under the strain," Christy Mathewson was once quoted on saying, who himself uncharacteristically lost both starts in the Giants' four game to three defeat by the Red Sox. But while it was all doom and gloom for the Big Apple boys, the opposite was true for the original owner of this special souvenir, which paired an exquisitely rare pinback button with a charming little red sock. The celluloid pin measures 1.25" in diameter and presents very well despite a degree of foxing on the face that only adds to the vintage patina. The original paper backing is found on verso, advertising local Boston retailer "A.R. Lopez & Bro." The child-size sock presents a few small moth holes but also displays quite nicely despite the few flaws, and provides a fine home for the pin.
