1912 $20 St. Gaudens PCGS MS64
1912 $20 St. Gaudens. PCGS graded MS64. PCGS Pop: 250/28. Fully original with warm golden color. Mintage of 149,750. In the context of double eagles of this decade, the 1912 is one of the scarcer issues. Choice Mint States are around in sufficient numbers up to the 64 level to keep it in active play with thousands of potential collectors vying to own one. This is also the first year with 48 obverse stars, not a rearrangement of the earlier 46 stars, but simply the addition of two new ones to reflect the entry of New Mexico and Arizona into the Union. For those who have never seen a Saint-Gaudens double eagle except in photographs, the edge on these, instead of the usual bars or milling, has E PLURIBUS UNUM in raised letters, separated by stars (PCGS # 9160)
