1912 $2 1/2 PR66 NGC. This is an exquisitely struck and immaculately preserved Premium Gem from a mintage of just 197 pieces. The variegated mixture of pale lime-gold and peach coloration is particularly attractive. As Garrett and Guth relate in their 2006 reference work on U.S. gold coinage: "Once again the Philadelphia Mint changed the texture and finish on the Proofs. The 1912 Indian Head quarter eagles show a fine sandblast texture, which reflects the light with reflective microscopic facets. This date is one of the scarcest of the Proof issues; it is nearly tied in overall rarity with the 1913 and 1915 Proofs according to the population data." Census: 19 in 66, 9 finer (6/07).

Coin Engraver: Bela Lyon Pratt

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information\)
