1912<$10> MS67 PCGS. Ex: Kruthoffer. Like the 1911, the 1912 is a more available early P-mint that is often used for type purposes. Several dozen Gem and better coins have been certified, but there is a precipitous drop-off in availability at the MS67 level with only this and a single NGC-graded coin known. In the holdings Heritage sold of the Morse Collection in November of last year, there was an MS66 1912, certified by NGC, and that coin brought a record-breaking $16,100. It should be interesting to see what this piece brings as it is the finest PCGS coin certified.
The typical 1912 is sharper struck on the obverse than the reverse. That is the case with this coin. The obverse displays strong definition on the hair of the Indian and the headdress, but there is a slight loss of detail on the front edge of the eagle's wing. The finely granular surfaces have an overlay of soft mint frost, and each side shows rich, deep reddish coloration, with a slight intermingling of lilac on the reverse and even fainter portions of that same color on the obverse. Close examination with a magnifier reveals a few tiny marks, but the only one that might be useful for tracing the pedigree of this important coin is an angling mark below the first A in AMERICA.
Ex: Kruthoffer Collection (Paramount, 9/81), lot 51, where it brought $4,800.
Indian Eagle Selections from the Dr. Steven L. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid. This lot is being auctioned in conjunction with a live floor auction by Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers. All final auction and invoice information will be supplied by Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers, and all other information should be considered preliminary.
