<B>1911-S 50C MS66 PCGS.</B></I> David Lawrence, in his <I>Complete Guide to Barber Halves,</B></I> writes that the 1911-S, with a mintage of 1.2 million pieces, is: "Available in lower circulated grades, but surprisingly tough AU55 through MS. Much scarcer than the 1911-D in these grades." The population data show that fewer than 100 examples have been seen in Mint State by PCGS and NGC; in Premium Gem, the grade of the current example, the services have graded only five coins, and a mere two finer.<BR> Warm, light gold color bathes radiantly lustrous surfaces, and the design features are well executed. Well preserved throughout; an inoffensive small mark on the cap beneath star 6 is mentioned solely for pedigree purposes. This piece displays great aesthetic and technical quality. Housed in a first generation PCGS holder.
